Search Engine Optimization or (SEO) could be the single most important aspect of your website save for the design and user experience. The process in helping your visitors find your website is crucial to your online success and there are many factors to take into consideration with SEO. Let’s have a discussion about the factors involved and a couple tips on how to increase your search engine rankings. We’ll discuss a few ‘buzz words’ and their meanings, and a few different factors of SEO that you may not have considered.
Keywords these days in your head code have been rendered useless. Some people tend to use them because there may still be some search engines which still use these to help determine your over all worth, but for the most part the keywords in your website head are not used. This being said, that does not mean that you should not use a keyword or two within your content and structure your page accordingly. What does ‘accordingly’ mean? You’ll need to contact us to find out 🙂
Page descriptions are what you’ll see when you use Google or other search engines to find what you are looking for. This could be a very important part of your SEO, make sure you include the keyword(s) you’re focusing on with the page content, but remember that people are reading this and it should make sense.
Page Titles & Content
Your page should have your keywords used within the content and the title / page url to help increase the SEO ranking of your website. This can sometimes be difficult because it is also very important to produce meaningful content without creating pages that are difficult to read or understand due to the way you are using your keywords within your content. Naming your pages or articles can become difficult as well, but with anything you do, it’s always ideal to sit back and think about things before doing them. This is one of those things. Remember, ‘content is king’.
Page Links (external and internal)
Having hyperlinks within your content is important. It helps the spiders crawl from page to page and helps make sure they do not miss any content. Any external links you can work in that may be important to the content is a great idea as it helps you more or less ‘share’ SEO with that certain website. But please do not just start tossing in links to Apple or Microsoft because you know they have great SEO, it doesn’t work that way.
Optimizing your images with ‘alt’ tags and proper naming conventions is important. Use your keywords as you see fit. Having images named DCE0042 from your camera uploads is less than ideal and does not seem to make any sense to Google either. Nor does it seem to relate to any of your content. If you’re using images within your content it is also a great idea to use meaningful images that relate to your content, not everyone wants to see photos of your children covered in spaghetti sauce at dinner time when they are reading information on your automotive repair business. While your kids may be cute, a photo of a vehicle which relates to that page or article may be better suited.
Yes, this also makes a difference to your search engine optimization. When creating your profiles it is ideal to use very similar if not the same username across all platforms. This helps your users find you and helps relate your business to your social media accounts. Using social media and possibly even linking them into your website with a Twitter feed or Facebook Face Pile helps your visitors relate to your content, helps create more internal and external links which will improve the quality of your SEO rankings.
Writing this article is difficult. There are many different aspects to Search Engine Optimization to take into consideration and short of writing a large book to help you achieve a great SEO ranking, the best bet is to do some research or hire a professional to help you with your rankings. Developer tools can help distribute your website among others and help your keywords get ranked appropriately. The over all return on investment on any SEO budget you can muster up is worth it. Hands down you will not get the exposure for your online presence without it.
