Developing Our First Application
A CRM, Project Management, Invoicing and Inventory tool
It’s been a great year for Niteowl Creative. From the start, we planned on growth. you always plan to grow. But unfortunately some businesses have difficulty growing. When Niteowl Creative was originally formed, I (Nick) had moved my freelance work into a newly formed company (Niteowl Creative) and was lucky enough to partner up with a few amazingly creative individuals.
We had plans. Plans to build applications, build websites, and design some pretty badass marketing materials for our clients new and existing while harnessing the power of social media to show everyone what we’re capable of. The largest project we did this year was a first for us as a whole. We’ve built web applications before, had a hand in some great projects in the past, but not collectively as Niteowl Creative. From CRMs, Billing Systems, to full custom E-commerce solutions. We had done it all previously, but separately.
Working hand-in-hand with our new client (who will remain unknown for this article. Mostly due to the project being 99% complete currently and working out kinks. But don’t worry, we’ll share it with you once it’s 100%) at their office, learning their current systems which had at that point been an amalgamation of Excel spread sheets, Lotus Approach (1995 software) and Microsoft Office. I was able to take their processes and streamline them and plan out an amazing application that is built using PHP as well as a strong PHP framework called Laravel. Being a responsive web application to ensure the team could use it from home, mobile or while traveling on their iPads was a great option that we chose to take advantage of. We used a structure for the responsive development called HTML5 Boilerplate to give us the foundation of the application.
This new application works as a CRM, Lead Management, Project Management, Invoicing and Inventory tool. It completely streamlines their projects from the moment the customer contacts them, until the project is invoiced and shipped to their door. Adding a new customer, planning their project and pricing it out, approving the estimate moves them into the project management portion of the software where they can add files, notes, artwork approval and more. Once the project is marked as complete a final invoice is shipped off to the customer for payment, and shipping arrangements are made.
Currently we’re in the phase of testing. The project is complete for the most part and being used daily in conjunction with their previous method until testing and and small bugs are worked out. Being able to say this quite large application was our first to tackle here at Niteowl Creative is a great thing for us. It has opened up the doors for more development projects we have been lucky to acquire from iOS development and Android apps.
We will have a few screenshots and updates about our application we’ve built as soon as it is up and running! It’s an exciting process for us.
We’re having fun.
