Time & time again I have heard “I get no ROI from social media & minimal from my website, there’s better things I can be investing my time in”. That’s like nails on a chalkboard to me, yet I hear A LOT of businesses saying that.
They do ‘The Facebook’ which is linked to their ‘Tweeter account’ (real words, true story & NOT something any business should do). They don’t make any money off of those, so why would they waste their time & even worse; their $$$$$ on something that brings them nothing in return.
I have heard people discuss the lack of a purpose for a website. If it doesn’t generate any ROI but yet is such a high cost why do we need a website? But that’s for another post.
Social Media; while not generating much ROI it has LIMITLESS potential that deserves you (your brand) investing as much time/manpower as you can. It’s about building a community for your customers/users to build a personal attachment to your brand that resonates more than them buying your product. To give them a behind the scenes look at how things are made, done & to just let them know you’re still there.
Companies that are looking to make money off of Social Media, they won’t. Not in the short term anyways & not directly through this channel. And if that’s their mentality going into Social Media then they will not succeed & therefore won’t see the TREMENDOUS value that comes through this channel. But I personally feel EVERY company should be on some form of Social Media, not saying that they all need to invest countless hours into it but you need to have some sort of footprint there.
I have seen the positive results & incredible engagement through many of the social media accounts that I have managed at one point or another. The great thing about giving the brand a voice, you can choose how your brand builds its online identity. Something crucial is that you can make it completely different from who you are as an individual & how you choose to use your personal accounts. Key point being; keep them separate, the worst thing you can do is use your business account to voice YOUR personal opinions.
Social Media takes time to truly build an effective campaign; anyone that guarantees you x-amount of followers or LIKES is not offering you a quality product & is essentially stealing your money. It’s about building quality relationships, building a true brand & not just a name. Social Media is where you build your brand’s identity & give it a voice. It’s where people can relate with the message you are trying to get across & if you do it properly; you can get messages across indirectly without the follower knowing what you’re doing. I’m not talking about deceiving the user by any means, I am talking about creating a proper campaign that has a main message as well as sub-messages that doesn’t leave the user feeling overwhelmed.
It comes down to a science; it’s not just typing crap out & posting it, there is ALWAYS a method behind the madness. If you don’t understand the way to capitalize on Social Media STOP doing whatever it is you are doing. Whatever you’re doing could do more damage to your brand than good. It is worth you investing some money into at the very least a consultation with a company/person that does know. You don’t need to have them do ALL your social media, there are many different options available & I would HIGHLY recommend Niteowl Creative (I’m completely biased but we 150% know what we’re talking about).
